In Battle
Weapon:
Soldier Sword: the soldier sword has a long - about 1 ½ metres – curved sword which he has carried with him since the start of his SOLDIER training. It has a spiral like design to it which allows him to execute both one-handed and double-handed attacks.
Sniper Rifle: he was one of the most skilled sniper rifle users there were in SOLDIER, especially for someone of his age.
Fighting Style:
From the many years that Zack has worked with the SOLDIER organisation, it is safe to say that this boy is extremely strong, agile and flexible for someone of his height. He is able to execute some of the most difficult moves thanks to his training and wields his sword as if it were as light as a feather. You can usually find him improvising with other random objects as weapons if he doesn’t have his sword on him.
Agility:
Although Zack might be tall, this doesn’t affect his agility at all. He’s quick, nimble and despite his sword being rather heavy looking – he manages to weave about the battlefield without much of a hassle. He can execute acrobatic manoeuvres to escape from ones line of attack before regaining his composure quickly and striking quickly once again.
Strength:
Something that Zack also relies on a lot, his strength. Back in SOLDIER, he was quickly promoted to 1st class after Sephiroth saw him fighting against a 1st class SOLDIER and beating him whilst he was still only a 2nd class, he was also able to stand his own against Sephiroth who was considered the best SOLDIER in the world. His fighting style is expertly spread throughout most of his abilities, but when he is winging it because he has no other ideas of what to do, you can usually find him relying most on brute strength as well as his agility.
Tactics:
He’s quite the schemer, but he also tends to act without thinking of what’s to come. But, if it comes down to it, his fighting skills are mainly based around fast paced slices that he can do with his weapon, along with using his brain to think of his opponents next moves will be. He likes to plan ahead but sometimes it never goes according to plans, so he usually wings it to see how things will go. But, in a proper fight, Zack – even whilst fighting – will study ones ways and pick out all of their weaknesses and their strengths and use those aspects to his advantage.
Abilities:
Chain slash:
A series of quick slashes towards his opponent, the final blow being his strongest before he backs off to recover.
Dark/Light spell: the main name is unknown, but this ability allows him to channel a large surge of energy when his sword collides with the ground towards his enemies.
Limit breaks:
Zack has the ability that allows him to mimick ones strongest ability – but only once. This was probably one of the main reasons he was so successful in becoming a 1st class SOLDIER. Some of the abilities he has managed to learn and use more than once are -
Octaslash:
At the start of a battle, Zack tends to run forward to knock his opponent into the air. This allows him to execute several different attacks on the one opponent before knocking them roughly back to the ground.
Apocalypse:
Zack begins to levitate high into the air while casting a giant seal on the floor of the battlefield under all enemies. He gathers energy in his hand and raises it above his head, casting powerful lightning across the battlefield, causing heavy damage to all enemies, eventually igniting the seal.
NOTE: these ‘limit breaks’ can only be turned into once in every match. It takes up to 2 days tops for him to recover from the amount of energy it consumes and if he attempts to use them before he has completely recovered, it is possible that he could become seriously injured – or even die.
Weakness:

Yeah, he might be quick on his feet and incredibly strong, but he tends to have the problem of not looking down towards shorter opponents. You can easily knock him off his feet if you are way below eye level, or he could lose sight of you. But, this only ever happens on the rare occasion when Zack hasn’t got his head in the game.
Lacks seriousness/underestimates opponents:
Zack’s the type of person to underestimate someone from their appearance – not gonna lie. If he were to fight a girl, he’d immediately think he was going to win and would go easy on her just so he wouldn’t make her feel bad. Also, if he’s fighting a kid, he’ll probably laugh and tell them to go off to do something less dangerous. Although that could come off as rude, he’s actually not – he really does wish they’d go and do something safer with their lives rather than running around fighting people with swords.
Wings it:
If Zack hasn’t got a plan, well, what better to do than wing it? If he hasn’t been given time to observe his surroundings and who he is up against, he’ll usually rely on his agility and brute strength rather than coming up with a tactic as to how to beat you. This comes as a serious problem when Zack fights, because when he wings it, he usually loses all sense of what is going on around him and where his allies are.
Sucker for the lookers:
If there’s a pretty lady standing around, Zack’ll get distracted quite easily. It doesn’t take much to get this boy to run off to try and pick up another woman to spend time with. Oh, and don’t forget the guys too. Mhm, Zack goes both ways but has a strict no sleeping with male’s policy. If you’re one of those people who are drop dead gorgeous or are completely adorable – Zack probably won’t even try to fight you, or will stop the fight just so he wouldn’t have to hurt that pretty face of yours. Oh, and he’d probably walk off during a fight just to go talk to a woman/guy he finds attractive on the other side of the room.

Personality:
Fiercely loyal:
From his teammates to his best friends, family and lovers – once Zack makes a promise and steps into your life, you can guarantee that the boy will remain true to his words and will never hurt you (if he can help it). He’ll stand up to almost anyone – even friends – if they’re hurting his best friend, Cloud, and won’t hesitate to fight you if the time comes. Not once has he broke a promise or an attachment for selfish reasons or unknown reasons; he always lets things happen gradually and if the speed up is needed, he’ll do it. Zack will always remain true to those he’s dedicated himself too and will avoid breaking off with them unless it is severely needed.
Overprotective:
Towards those he loves, he’ll do whatever he can to keep you safe. Even if there’s the slightest rumble outside or he picks up on movement, he’ll stop whatever he’s doing just to investigate the problem – weapon in tow. You can be sure that Zack will keep you safe from whatever lurks about the night that could harm you – another asset to why he’s known as ‘Zack the Puppy.’ Back in SOLDIER, Zack would always be the one to offer up his services to take up guard duty and would stay up all night by scouting the perimeter and checking up on his fellow partners whenever he could. The person he’s most protective of is Cloud – they’ve known one another for several years now and would do whatever it takes to keep the boy safe. He’d even risk his own life to keep the kid alive. If you manage to make an imprint on his heart, then he’ll probably become quite protective over you and your friendship.
Flirtatious, Playful, Sarcastic:
Zack can often be seen chatting up people around him, asking people on dates and sweeping another person off to his home for a ‘night in.’ He sees himself as being quite the ‘ladies man’ and knows how to flaunt his good looks. Somewhat vain? Yep. Zack is the type of person who will always be in your ‘personal space.’ He likes to have some sort of random body contact as if to keep himself sane from breaking, and will often touch you with friendly gestures or ‘suggestive’ ones. With Cloud, well, with Cloud he tends to do it just to annoy the boy. Being much taller than him, he gets the advantage of being stronger and can bend Cloud to his will (despite his constant wish for him to stop). Don’t worry, this isn’t in a gross way – he just likes to stir the boy up and make him uncomfortable. But, if you tell him you don’t like it, he won’t do it. It’s as simple as that.
Eager, Strong, Attitude:
Zack’s always been the type who’s constantly up for something fun – a new adventure, a fight or even just visiting somewhere new and meeting new people. If it’s something that he hasn’t done/seen before, he’ll be there. He’s been described as having a ‘spunky and strong’ attitude because he’s always up for a new training session and the likes. Yet another asset towards his nickname. He’s always been a leader and knows how to get people to cheer up and have a good time wherever they are. Zack tends to make all of the decisions as to what he does and doesn’t let anyone else boss him around. Oh yeah; as for the attitude side of things, you may want to stay off that.
Sweetheart, Loving, Caring:
These, my friend, are what earned Zack the nickname ‘Zack the puppy.’ Wherever he goes, Zack is always able to make new friends and almost everyone instantly likes him for his upbeat personality. To those he holds close, he often shows signs of affection anyway that he can and always wants to be around them, sometimes even going to the extent of stealing them away from someone else without their permission. His whole personality changes to an almost ‘teddy-bear’ like demeanour when he’s around his friends – but it also doesn’t take long for people to see this side of him once they’ve met him. But, there are just some things that he keeps to his closest friends only.
History:
Childhood:
Zack was originally born on the 12th of July, 1984 into a loving family. From a young age, Zack dreamed of becoming a 1st class SOLDIER like his idol, Sephiroth. Like any other child, he attended school on the days that were necessary whilst outside of school he ran around playing with toy swords, climbing trees and dangerous places as well as the occasional fights with the local boys. As he progressed through school getting good enough grades to pass, he found himself getting eager for the day he turned 13. That was when he was going to go and join the SOLDIER’s. Every day he fought with his parents about this topic until – on his thirteenth birthday – he left without another word to them. He ran away from home with all of his important possessions and never looked back.
SOLDIER training:
It had only taken Zack a year and a half to reach the position of 2nd class SOLDIER. His eagerness, natural agility and flexibility proved to be useful around the battlefield and he was soon taken under the wing of one of the upper class soldiers. Whilst he was training, his idol, Sephiroth, watched him as he progressed through the training activities with flying colours. After 2 years, Zack was able to defeat his 1st class SOLDIER tutor and was able to hold his own against Sephiroth when he fought him, but never completely being able to beat him. He was soon put up a rank and was now one of the youngest 1st class SOLDIER’s there ever was. He was happy to a point, but was unhappy that he’d attained his goal at such a young age and after he’d gone through so many losses on his missions. Whilst training here, he met his best friend, Cloud Strife. Although the boy was extremely quiet and seemed shy, Zack was able to get him to open up more with his constant persistence in getting the boy to be his friend. To this day they remain close and do almost everything together – Zack dragging Cloud along, of course.
Experimentation:
After the tragic destruction of Cloud’s hometown from none other than Sephiroth, the boys were taken back by Professor Hojo to become his experiments. The experiments were intended to make the boys into Sephiroth clones, but Zack was unaffected due to him already being a SOLDIER. This went on for 4 years until Zack was able to break out of the tubes they were in and lugs around an extremely comatose Cloud with him. He had to fight quite a few battles with Cloud on the sidelines, but managed to hold his own and got them to a safe place. They were on the run for a year, Zack constantly moving around to different towns and fighting off those who were after Cloud’s Jenova cells – he took care of the boy however he could and created quite the knack of talking to himself because, hey, you’re best friends completely catatonic and its just the two of you, who else are you going to communicate with?
Travel to Olympus Colosseum:
Zack and Cloud found themselves making their way to the Colosseum after they were left without a place to go. Here, Zack found a place for the two of them to stay and left – still comatose Cloud – before he went and approached Phil, saying that he wanted to become a hero and he took him under his wing alongside Herculeus. The two battled it out for months until Phil finally picked Herculeus over Zack. It hurt him, but he took his decision with a smile on his face. That day never really broke his dream of becoming a hero; he still kept his hopes up that someday he could do something big to help someone in need. He once again joined Cloud and they set off again, this time finding themselves stumbling upon Hollow Bastian. Here, they managed to secure themselves a house to stay in and managed to get back all of the possessions they had lost whilst SOLDIER was being destroyed. Cloud finally woke up after a year of being a complete vegetable, and Zack made sure that the boy didn’t have anything wrong with him and got him back to normal health in no time.
Current:
Zack has recently turned 23 and is currently residing in Hollow Bastian alongside Cloud. Occasionally he finds himself going back to visit the Colosseum for training from a professional rather than running his own sessions. You can often find him dragging Cloud along to places that the boy doesn’t want to go; you can also find him chatting up some of the people around town as well as running amuck with Cloud tagging along beside him. He may be 23, but he’s certainly a child at heart.

Almost six months had passed and Cloud was still not awake. No matter how many times Zack attempted to shake him awake, to tempt him with something he liked or screamed and yelled, there was still no response. It was as though the boy was completely brain dead – that the Jenova cells had poisoned him all over and shut his mind down. Sure, he got the occasional grunt or groan when he was hauling the boy around on his back, but it was still not enough to set his worried mind at ease. Here he was, completely unaffected by the cells and still standing strong, now fighting for both of their lives with a practically dead best friend on his back and had been doing so for six months. Would this hell never end?
He was trained for these types of situations and knew how to take care of his injured partner, but for six months with barely any possessions, money and the constant movement from town to town was starting to kill him. But Zack wouldn’t give up. No way in hell would he let his little buddy die on him or leave him for one of the people searching for them to get him - he’d carry the boy around for however long it took them to find somewhere to settle down and be free from what they once went through. Zack wanted Cloud to get better, to wake up and be his normal shy and ‘fun to pester’ self... he just wanted his best friend back. Zack gave a sigh as he hoisted the blonde up further onto his back, hands situating themselves underneath his knees to keep him upright. Instead of thinking of all the worse case scenarios, he found himself focusing on the feeling of the boys warm, slow breath against his back, the steady – but slightly sickly – beat of his heart and the way he’d randomly groan when Zack accidentally lost his footing or bumped him into something. It hurt to know that Cloud had been hurt this bad when he’d gotten away with barely any damage... In some ways, he felt it was his fault.
Sky blue eyes flickered up towards a rather large colosseum type building as he came to a stop, feeling as Cloud almost tipped backwards on his back. He leaned forward to stop him, cringing slightly when he felt the boys face hit his back rather roughly. Thank god he was asleep and wasn’t awake to complain about him treating him like a ragdoll, huh? ”Hm... What do you say, kid? Does this place seem alright to stay in for awhile?” Zack asked, looking over his shoulder towards the sleeping boy on his back, watching as his face screwed up before relaxing again, a light sigh leaving his lips. It’d become a habit to talk to the unconscious Cloud as if he were awake, people looked at him strangely whenever he passed and was talking to himself, answering his own questions and such. There was only so much he could do to keep himself entertained whilst this whole thing was happening. He waited until he heard what sounded like an approving groan from Cloud before he grinned brightly, ”I thought so too. Hopefully we don’t find anyone who wants to fight us here.” Zack stated as he glanced around him again, making sure that no one else was around before he trudged off towards the entrance.
Once inside, he managed to find an out of view set of stone seats that he set Cloud down onto before sitting himself, hoisting his feet up onto the chair in front of him before laying Cloud down so his head was rested in his lap. Zack let his head fall back as he gave an exhausted huff; eyes closing as he absently brushed his fingers through the boy’s blonde locks. This placed seemed safe enough to at least stay here a few days, maybe weeks depending on what happened. Zack tilted his head back up and looked down at Cloud, his solemn expression falling to a sad one as he looked at the boys peaceful face. ”Whatever you do, bud, just don’t go into any bright lights, got it?” He instructed, smirking as Cloud stirred slightly. ”No, don’t argue with me. I can’t afford to lose you now after all we’ve been through,” Zack cocked his head to the side and watched as Cloud pouted his lips slightly and went dead quiet, only the sound of his breathing reaching Zack’s ears. The dark haired boy slumped further into his seat and rested the back of his head against the stone, shifting until he found a comfortable position to remain in as he let himself slip into unconsciousness. At least now they could rest without any problems.
